The awards, accomplishments, speaking engagements and news of the distinguished faculty of the Insurance Law Center at the University of Connecticut School of Law:
Professor Jessica Rubin has been named one of the top ten animal defenders in the United States by The Animal Legal Defense Fund. Professor Rubin was instrumental in creating Desmond’s Law, the nation’s first statutory animal advocate position in criminal cruelty cases. The law allows Connecticut courts to appoint advocates, such as law students under supervision, in animal cruelty cases. She supervises students and appears in court to advocate for justice in cases of animal cruelty, making her one of the first attorneys approved to volunteer as an animal advocate.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners recently reappointed Professor Peter Kochenburger to the post of consumer liaison representative. He is one of 37 experts who provide insurance regulators with direction and support. Kochenburger, executive director of the Insurance LLM Program and deputy director of the Insurance Law Center, has been a consumer representative since 2010.
Professor Sachin Pandya presented a paper, titled Joint Liability Without Joint Employer: Aiding-Abetting Liability in US Work Law, at the Association of American Law Schools 2018 Annual Meeting in San Diego on January 5, 2018.
