The awards, accomplishments, speaking engagements and news of the distinguished faculty of the Insurance Law Center at the University of Connecticut School of Law:
Professor Alexandra Lahav has co-authored an amicus brief signed by 20 civil procedure law professors in B.K. v. McKay. The brief supports the plaintiffs in the class action suit, which was filed on behalf of minors in the Arizona foster care system alleging widespread and systematic failures by the state. Defendants moved to dismiss the case on the grounds that the U.S. District Court lacks jurisdiction. The brief supported the plaintiffs' requests for declaratory and injunctive relief. Lahav's co-authors are David Marcus, Maureen Carroll and Adam Zimmerman.
Professor Peter L. Lindseth spoke at the Sciences Po Law School in Paris on two recent occasions. On June 21, 2018, he spoke during the Intensive Doctoral Week program on the topic "Comparative-Historical Method in the Study of Administrative Law: A Theoretical Framework" in a panel discussion on "A New Approach to Comparison in Administrative Law." The following day he discussed "Transforming factors in administrative law" at The Future of Administrative Law conference.
The American Bar Association honored Professor Alexandra Lahav with an honorable mention in the prestigious 2018 Silver Gavel Awards for her book In Praise of Litigation. The book, published in February 2017 by Oxford University Press, refutes the notion that the United States is awash in frivolous lawsuits and describes how restrictions on the ability to bring suit undermine a pillar of American democracy.
